Doesn’t mean to say the club wouldn’t offer more in order that they get their player. The report says people close to Doig mention Arsenal as his preferred choice, 4/5 million up front is nothing to them where Watford were rounding up to 4 million with the add on’s which was rejected. Arsenal could offer the full amount up front plus give us add on’s over a certain amount of games with a decent sell on clause, it’s going to be interesting that’s for sure and if it does happen I hope our recruitment team have a ready made replacement lined up.

If they want to offer more, they offer it to the player, not the club.

Poor business sense paying more for something that already has a value.

If we accept say.. 4 mil plus adds, then that's the value regardless of who offers that money.

I dread the day if we ever became fan owned or fan run. Every player would be punted at the earliest opportunity for a pittance. All over social media whether it's Doig, Nisbet or Porteous, it's "good money", "take it", "he's only played 40 games..." etc, etc.

I must be getting old. I recall the times our club got grief for selling players. Now it seems to be celebrated FFS...

Doig is under long term contract and he's learning his trade. He will get better and his value will increase. Hold our nerve and only sell if the offer is too good to refuse.

Players hold the power. Whether they're contracted or not.

We've got plenty of examples.

Why would Arsenal offer the same offer that was rejected? If they are serious about Doig then there offer would have to be better.

What are you on about?
I said they offer the same as what was theoretically accepted 🤷‍♂️

You said poor business sense by paying more that has a value, well our value is a lot different to what Watford offered, therefore Arsenal would have to improve on that offer to our club to secure the player, like my example them offering the full 4/5 million up front plus giving us add on’s and a decent sell on clause which is more than Watford’s first offer.

All speculation anyway, although I am 100% sure Ron will get us the best deal 💚

Nah, you're misunderstanding.

Forget about todays bid, today's bid is completely irrelevant because it was knocked back.
I said 4mil plus add ons, which is the same as the number you said.
If Watford came back, and got that figure accepted.
Then no club is going to pay more than that figure, because we've already named our price at that point.

I will say, I'm confident we'll do well here as well, because Ron's leadership has shown we won't just roll over and accept whatever is thrown out there.

I don't think it is being celebrated to be honest.
No Hibs fan wants our best players to leave, but if they want to go then there really is not an awful lot we can do about it except get the highest price possible, with big sell-on fees thrown in.
Usually when a team finishes third in the SPFL they tend to lose some of their better players and sometimes even the manager.
Ross will stay for the time being, but I think it's a certainty some of our better players will be sold shortly. The body language and attitude of several of our top "stars" in the Scottish Cup Final told me they were not focussed properly on the game and their minds were elsewhere.
If Sean Mackie could overcome his seemingly chronic hip problem, I would be more than happy for him to be our regular left-back, with Lewis there to help out and act as back-up. I rate Mackie.
Our recruitment team have their work cut out this summer replacing players who will be leaving, but that's what they are paid to do.
We have to maintain the standards set last season, and strive to do better, and we have to get in experienced leaders who have a big game mentality. For me, that's what we are really short of.

He MAY get better. It's not a given. Lots of players in our past were looked upon as potentially fabulous players, but for many it was downhill all the way.
It's a game of chance up to a point. That point being an offer such as Watfords. Accept it and move on, or tell the laddie he has to stay and possibly have an unhappy player.
This is not aimed at Diog to be fair he seems a level headed lad, but Nisbet and Porteus have shown their hand.

To be fair, developing players is such a gamble.

Josh Doig could go on to have a shocker this season, suffer a bad injury, or develop even further and be worth double what he is now. But it’s hard for a club like Hibs to walk away from good money on the table, and it’s hard to deny the player the chance to go an earn life changing money.

For what it’s worth, I want us to keep him.

We could have cashed in early with John Collins in 1988. We didn't. We held onto him until 1990 and he didn't have a bad career....

He had a very good career. But they are few and far between ,K.
For every real success story theres probably 10 failures. Guys who are touted as the next big thing but end up pushing trolleys at a supermarket and playing junior football.
I'm trying not to be negative about the situation, but if a player wants out and he doesnt get out , all of a sudden he becomes less than professional.
Sometimes cashing in early is not a bad thing.

Alex Harris, Callum Booth, Danny Handling, Sam Stanton.
All the next best thing at one point or another.

Probably not helped by the way some Hibs fans viewed them.
Booth and Wotherspoon both double cup winners this season

Just the first 4 names that came to my head.
Great achievement and Wotherspoon has been a big part of their team for a few seasons now. Legitimately a club legend. 3 trophies 2 of which are the Scottish.
Booth is easily comparable to Doig. Came in, looked brilliant, got forward and put balls into the box.
Harris got a bad injury, got thrown right back in without proper rehab and never recovered. Such are the margins in young players.

I left Wotherspoon off my list because I actually thought he was a good player and had more to give.

Different era that. Pre-Bosman, agents, player power… the end game for Hibs is to develop and sell players like Doig.

Josh Doig is a bad injury away from being the next Alex Harris.
I get all of that but until we get an offer that meets our valuation he shouldn't be sold.

None had Premiership clubs in England watching them.

How many players have we brought through in recent times that have? And do you actually think we could stop them going if they wanted to?

Nobody is being sold until they do meet our valuation? 🤷‍♂️

Seems like you're missing the points....

I'm saying that he is a player with English Premiership interest it's important we don't sell cheaply. You seriously suggesting that if Arsenal came in offering us 500K and the player 50K per week we couldn't say no? So of course we can stop an under contract player from leaving unless our valuation is met.

I've never said he is being sold with our valuation not being met. I'm saying there's Hibs fans on social media saying 2.5 Million is too good to turn down.

Same fans that were almost outraged that we didn't accept a bid from Birmingham for Nisbet in January. And we will sell for more than what was offered in January.
