Just such a shame it was the wrong kind of pandemic
It wasn't just the wrong kind of pandemic, much of the plan had been left on the shelf gathering dust for years while equipment was sold off, not replenished, not updated in England according to the NAO.

AS, the Scottish equivalent, suggested we did OK in the early part of the crisis.

Why bother with insurance it'll never happen. Just spend trillions when it does.

Joking aside why bother indeed.

IF there is ever a full investigation into how the crisis has been dealt with by the UK government the misspent billions will surely be a major part of it.

It might be more effective/efficient to have a minimalistic plan and be reactionary to a specific crisis rather than having many detailed plans and fitting the crisis into one or some of them.

Save those misspent billions and the overall cost of a pandemic response could be cheaper than maintaining fully funded contingency plans that go unused for decades.

I was naive enough to think that there was a plan in place that could be tweaked to suit. I find it hard to see how we would have coped any better if it had been old fashioned flu with the halfwits running the show.

It probably could have been but the government ministers didn't seem to be able to understand.

As countries closed their borders we were told the UK would take advantage and remain open. The PM told us we should just take it on the chin while shaking hands with the smitten.

Having Boris Prince of Thieves at the helm, or maybe not, when this kicked off and there was a big buck to be made probably didn't do us any good.

I took lord haw haw's , victorian dad's the leader of the house of commons advice to the public at the start of this pandemic. He told us to wash our hands and sing god save the queen. Well its certainly worked for me! The rudest of health throughout this fuckfest.

The Western Isles are to move back to level three Covid restrictions from 18:00 on Wednesday.
The islands were placed under a level four lockdown at the end of January following a number of Covid outbreaks.
The largest outbreak, which affected Barra, was declared over last month.
NHS Western Isles' vaccination programme has also reached the point of offering people aged over 40 their first dose.

That piece should be stickied. A grim read.

Just watched the BBC and BBC Scotland respective News. Miniscule criticism of Governmental mismanagement of what has happened over the past year. It's a bit disconcerting that the BBC News nationwide is the most watched and trusted dispite it slowly but surely resembling the relationship that RT has with the Russian Government.

Its more than a bit disconcerting. I dont give them any money through their stealth tax anymore.

They can fine me / arrest my wages and steal it from my bank... but I will not wilfully give them any money.

(to be fair, even if the bbc was politically neutral, the bassas still wont get a penny out of me due to their BBC Sport, gunt infested anti Hibernian love in!)

And if Alan Preston is looking in : Fuck ye ya fat gunt slaver. Naebody is interested in ANYTHING you have tae say about our Club.... but I digress :49:

Currently in Perth WA with work and on day 5 of my 2 week hotel quarantine. It’s pretty brutal. No balcony and no fresh air which is a real pisser. Being kept busy with work during the day but the evenings are a drag. Do have a nice view though, and on the plus side no kids so can enjoy a good kip!

Be interesting to see when I get out of here a week on Saturday how “back to normal” everything is.. 🤔

You can! Limited to 4 beers or a bottle of vino a day which is fine. Yeah I really want to see Perth glory, I visited Fremantle a couple of years ago, beautiful place. You can actually see Optus stadium and the WAKA cricket ground from my hotel window.

Something has clearly been announced to the entertainment industry today. I've had dozens of announcements from the Bandsintown app about rearranged gigs around September time.

Interesting situation with Prof Devi who I've advocated on here before (apologies for spectator article but I've followed the situation on Twitter and it seems a fair representation to me). She now appears to have deleted her Twitter account.

That is a shame, she had a lot of good things to say.
