Alexei Sayle

Anyone in need of cheering up after Saturday (i.e. everyone, probably) could do worse than have a listen to yesterday's Desert Island Discs, featuring Alexei Sayle. Some very entertaining stories from his upbringing as a child of CPGB members, and a very eclectic choice of discs. (Oh and if you're thinking of replying to this by saying Alexei Sayle isn't funny, don't bother, because you are just wrong, very wrong).

Must admit I haven't actually followed his career since maybe the 90's?I don't know, he just seemed to fall off my radar. But I'll probably look this up because yes, I could do with a laugh.

I listened to that. There again I have listened to his podcast from day one, which are all on BBC Sounds. and watched his guided bike tours of North London. Quality. Forward to a diastropian Socialist World.

Heard his DID's caused a bit of a stir. Can't remember what the stir was, but think he said something about Starmer?

I think it was to do with past comments defending Corbyn re anti-Semitism allegations. Think the MP in question missed the fact that 1. Sayle is Jewish and 2. His Sandwich Bar podcast has been running on BBC for a a few years.

He didn't say anything about Starmer on the broadcast, struggling to think of anything about it which could possibly be twisted into a controversy

He gave up doing stand-up comedy for a while and wrote a few novels and collections of short stories which are worth looking out for.

I think he said this many years ago…… stood the test of time.

“If you travel to the States ... they have a lot of different words than like what we use. For instance: they say 'elevator', we say 'lift'; they say 'drapes', we say 'curtains'; they say 'president', we say 'seriously deranged git!'"

Caught it when it was on yesterday - some left-field (pun intended) choices - the fighting song of the Soviet Airforce followed by something in German from the threepenny opera - very enjoyable.

The MP wanted it banned because Alexi has stood up for Corbyn (bad enough) and had the nerve to criticise Israel. The usual pish from these pricks.
