He’ll still think he’s done ok , muppet 😡

That’s what it looks like

Yet Zahawi saying he there is no plan to cut back on LFT's.
Can this government give a cohesive answer (yes or no) to anything?

Not when policy is subject to change from day to day.

Free lateral flow tests will be phased out over the next few months I have no doubts about that..

The World Health Organisation has said that Omicron should not be seen as 'mild' on Thursday the UK reported over 175 thousand cases with well over 200 deaths.200 deaths, more than the Ibrox disaster, comparable with Lockerbie and yet folk on here seem to think it's 'all over bar the shouting'far from it.Our govts. are putting the economy over people's health.'Get out and work plebs'.

If you give a range of answers, one of them is bound to be right.

A broken clock is right twice a day.

Boris wants to do a Trump and take them away to pretend things aren't bad in the UK.

Nah, there's no tory donors or mates making millions from it

The companies that are profiting from it aren't donating enough to the party party.

The companies that are profiting from it are being threatened with losing their money machines so need to up what they're donating to the party party for it to continue.

All of the above.

In 2017-2018 we had 50,000 excess deaths in the UK attributed to influenza. With the benefit of hindsight should we have had restrictions/lockdown to mitigate that risk?
Sure I’ve asked you on a previous occasion but I am really interested on your source as it does not match up with the figures I have

Seems like it's be more effective to reduce fuel poverty, sleeping on the streets, insulate homes etc.

The virus is never going to be over....Covid-19 will be with us forever.
What should be over this year is all restrictions. They have to be. We have to get on with our lives as normal with Covid-19 and it's subsequent variants becoming another ongoing virus we have to live with.
Every one of us will get it at some point.
Booster vaccinations should be given to the elderly and most vulnerable every year around October/November.
However the most important thing for me (and this should have been done a long time ago), is that vaccines are distributed around the globe in a fair way so that the populations in the less developed world have access to them. Many people in these countries have not had one vaccination yet. This is/was a global health emergency and yet too many nations have been insular with their attitudes towards it. Politicians looking after their own interests instead of the world's poor.

Boris’s interests have backfired spectacularly 😡

While I agree with the world roll out in principal, I've said as much on here a number of times, there are issues not related to the lack of vaccine being supplied.

Some countries around the world appear to have a general reluctance to take the vaccine for among other reasons a mistrust of their governments. This seems to be the case particularly in Africa where reports earlier stated 1,000s of vaccine doses were being dumped as they passed their use by date. In cases like this I can only see the herd immunity thing being achieved by the virus going through their respective populations.

Thats all excess winter deaths I think, so includes things like pneumonia, which is what often kills ultimately very ill people. The real flu numbers are much much smaller, as shown here Covid and flu: what do the numbers tell us about morbidity and deaths?

Theres a real anti Vax mentality in alot of African countries due to blaming of past vaccines for other conditions down the years on illnesses etc

Or possibly passing the disease on to a older/vulnerable relative or friend 🤷‍♂️
Why do so many people still think that vaccines prevent you catching and/or passing on Covid?

Newsflash: they don’t.

Most people know this. The vaccines however should mean you have weaker symptoms and pass on less of a viral load.

Why do people think the world has ganged up and trying to convince people to take this evil vaccine.

Newsflash: That's just bollocks put out by conspiracy nuts such as Neil Oliver.

You can still get infected and transmit covid if fully vaccinated but the chances are reduced for both.

What the fuck are you on about? You've just confirmed exactly what I said; i.e. you of course can still get infected and transmit Covid when fully vaccinated.

I'm not denying that the chances are reduced. I'm responding to people who apparently think they can't catch/transmit at all if vaccinated.

You said they don't prevent you catching or passing on the virus. That's not true. They can and do prevent people getting infected or transmitting it.

Okay, for clarity: if you are vaccinated, you can still catch Covid and pass it on. Vaccines can and do mitigate the likelihood of that happening, but are very, very far from the cast-iron guarantee many folk seem to think they are. Happy with that?

Grade A pedantry, in any case -- you know fine well what I meant.

I don't see anything pedantic about it. Fair enough, you didn't mean what you wrote but it wasn't obvious what you did mean IMO. Thanks for clarifying.

It would be easy to get all caught up with this. The extract above relates to all excess winter deaths, not just flu, which I think was how the discussion started. Apologies if I picked this up incorrectly.

I read the above report some time ago when it was picked up by the press and read further, see below the part I think is related to flu. My reading of it was respiratory diseases, including flu, would only account for about a third of EWD.

"Respiratory diseases remained the most prominent underlying cause of excess winter deaths (EWD) with 84.9% more respiratory deaths in the winter months compared with the non-winter months in 2017 to 2018. This equates to 17,400 EWD caused by respiratory diseases and accounted for 34.7% of all EWD.

The EWM index for respiratory diseases in 2017 to 2018 was statistically significantly higher in all years since 2000 to 2001. Of these excess respiratory deaths, pneumonia (specifically ICD-10 code J18) and chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases (specifically ICD-10 code J44) accounted for the largest proportions. The prominence of pneumonia is likely related to the relationship between EWM and a range of bacterial and viral respiratory pathogens including influenza."

Perhaps some positive news in Nicola Sturgeon saying we are going to need to learn to live with Covid-19? Might mean daft restrictions like banning fitba fans sitting outside in the freezing cauld are ended....

She probably did Hibs a favour,we’ve signed players that wouldn’t have played…

Do these figures not include folk that passed from circulatory disease, dementia and Alzheimer’s, folk freezing to death in shop door ways and starving to death in freezing homes, figures for flu deaths are and will never be near those attributed to Covid.

Apparently the beaks at the SPFL are sweating as NS may well extend restrictions sadly.

My oldest laddie who works at the Queen Elizabeth in Glasgow, testing the PCR tests that come back has just been diagnosed with Covid for a second time.

The missus has just tested positive, I have just tested negative, should I self isolate? I’m fully vaccinated.

Sorry to hear that, M. Hope he's okay.

My eldest son also positive this week. Likely to spread to rest of family and his wee brother aged six who just had it in December.

You probably don't have to provided you test daily. Test and trace can advise for sure but that's the situation I'm in.
