Corona virus on its own thread.

See my above post about my Wife.
Yeah, was just wondering why you'd call 911. I'm guessing you were visiting Preston and got back to the States before the symptoms started?

911 is the emergency line that asks you what emergency service you want. I am not based in the States.

Jesus.
Horrendous.
Fingers crossed mate.

Every day is a school day, thanks.

Hope hope your wife is better soon, terrible situation.

Frightening mate, hope you're wife will be on the mend soon.

This virus has a bloody long arm.
From research ongoing its reckoned that as many as 2 million adults in the UK may have 'long covid'.
More pressure on the NHS long term.

My wife has Covid for the second time, on the 7th day of her isolation I had to call an ambulance to my house, she stopped breathing, was freezing cold even though the bedroom was roasting, her oxygen levels and temperature was all over the place, she text me our bank details so I know how to get access to our money to sort things like the Mortgage etc. The young girl on 911 was absolutely amazing she stayed with me on the phone the whole time until they were actually in my house, they were here for just under an hour doing all sorts of tests, my little boy then asks me if his Mummy is going to die, I was trying to keep strong for us both but that honestly broke me. In reality I was bricking it as I thought i was actually going to lose her, she kept on drifting in and out struggling to breath, thankfully the tests then done brought her back round, Bouncers my Wife has been double jabbed and was diagnosed with Long Covid after the first time, please please please take this seriously and think of others when you are out and about 💚
Hope she’s ok 🤞

I think that *&*^ Boris will end up selling the NHS to be honest, why else would they wipe off all their debt, that *&*^ has a lot to answer for in relation to Covid.

Come up on my news feed a minute after I posted ...
News is emerging that Plan B is being actively considered.
That was a given the moment Johnson said it would not be necessary.
He is a complete and utter tool.

Fuck sakes mate, that’s horrendous. Hope she gets better quick bud.

That's always been the plan, since well before covid.

All the best @The Family some story that

I echo fellow radges' sentiments @The Family . That's an awful read. Wish you and Mrs The Family all the best.....

We can see the effects of Covid, but we are still fumbling about in the dark in respect of Long Covid. A myriad of symptoms, and very random.!

@hibbybilly , just catching up on the thread..... sorry for the loss of your good mate. RIP.

Fuck covid and fuck hertz tae.

I have had to call another ambulance out tonight, once again my Wife was struggling to breathe, her oxygen levels dropped and the sore head that she was having since Thursday hasn’t gone away. She was having a phone consultation with her GP when things went from bad to worse, I was passed the phone and the Doctor saying you need to get your Wife an ambulance as she is very un well, the ambulance came out, there was three paramedics doing all these other tests, we are over 10 days since she caught this variant and it turns out the paramedics have said that this variant is a lot stronger than the first one she caught April last year. My Wife suffers from Fibromyalgia, Long Covid and now this stronger variant, I have had to take this week off work to look after her because fuck knows how long this going to be in her system for.

@hibbybilly - Sorry for your loss buddy 💚

I'm really to hear about your wife and the huge stress it has brought for you all mate. Horrible to hear of your lad's distress. What a horrendous experience for you all and I hope your wife makes a quick and full recovery.

I have recently recovered from Covid. Personally if I had not been double jagged I expect I would have been hospitalised. So the vaccines are doing what they are designed for in my opinion.

Worth noting Greenmachine and yourself are referring to the UK. I suspect what you "saw" was England not the UK. England have pretty much dropped all rules around Covid, from social distancing through to mask wearing and returning to normal at work and public transport. Scotland, Wales and the North of Ireland have different rules and better compliance I suspect.
Glad to hear you got over your bout of Covid, Mark. I'm pro-vaccine and got double jagged at the first opportunity but it just goes to show that we can't treat it as a silver bullet where Covid is concerned. It's clear that some vaccinated people are not only dying still but that many are still becoming very ill indeed with it. I think people are underestimating how horrendously ill it can still make you.

You're right about how things are happening in England now in my view and I get the feeling people are being a bit more careful in Scotland and elsewhere. Public transport here sees very few masks worn in my experience. I only grocery shop these days but the odd time I've been in a supermarket it appears the same there too. With all restrictions pretty well dropped here Covid seems like an afterthought with many know - like it's not an issue any more. I really don' think we're there yet and what's more, I'm expecting the leaking of this Plan B to become a reality very soon indeed. Not that I'm expecting much willingness to comply.

I'm really sorry to hear this, your wife is having a hellish time. Really hope things change for the better soon.

So sorry to read about this, you must be at your wits end.
I've just left a FB group in Thailand because the sole admin prick calls Covid "The sniffles" and ridicules anyone who challenges him.
Obviously the ignorant bastard hasn't gone through what you're experiencing.
Seriously hope things improve for you and your family?

I think the government were acutely aware that TV pictures of overwhelmed hospitals with patients in corridors (as we saw in Italy) would be very very bad for their image. I truly believe that's why they sent so many people back into care homes / refused to admit sick care home residents to hospital. Leaving them to die quietly out of sight turns them into just numbers that can be glossed over with judicious use of graphs and obfuscation.
Replying to my own post from eighteen months ago like some kind of uber-Moaty. The post in this tweet reinforces my view from then that it was the pictures from Italian hospitals that finally forced them into action (sadly that action included booting sick people into care homes). I think it also helps explain why hospital staff are being banned from engaging with the media, they don't want us to see what it's like in hospitals now either.

Can't speak to the accuracy of the information regarding PPE in that tweet but the stuff about Cheltenham is completely false and I'd argue that describing Italy as "way ahead" on vaccinations is quite a stretch.

I don't know the date of the original post but for example Cheltenham cases on 8 October were 31, on 15 October they were 233, a 650% increase so I'm not sure why you'd say it's completely false. And Italy at 70.9% fully vaccinated is pretty far ahead of England's 67.6% considering the head start the UK had.

I got my letter for my 'flu and covid booster.
Can't make the nominated date because I'm out of the country.
Neither the website nor the helpline can give me another appointment. There's none in any location in West Lothian or West Edinburgh this year. Allegedly.

If I get 'flu or Covid now and die, I'm gonnae be massively pissed off, because this is a farce.

I can say almost certainly what is said about the PPE, in England, is correct. I'm sure it was well documented at the time.

The Pyramids is operating as a drop in - I was looking it up earlier for my daughter and noticed it said they can do covid boosters as a drop in as long as you have an appointment letter (to prove you're eligible, doesn't matter when or where the appointment is for). No letter needed for first / second jags.

Cheers @Rocky.

I'll try phoning once or twice more, but if I get nowhere (again) I'll maybe try that. My appointment is/was for the Pyramids, but I can't re-arrange it, and I don't want to cancel altogether as I would quite like the protection offered!

I do know the date of the post, at least to within 48 hours. Taking the worst case scenario daily cases declined in Cheltenham by about 40% in the 7 days to that date - which is in any case a bad way to measure. The 7-day average which is a better method shows an increase of about 112%.

Incidentally today in Cheltenham the 7-day average of cases has declined about 15% and nobody has died within 28 days of a positive covid test in the LA in the week to today.

If you consider 70.9% to be "way ahead" of 67.6% then that's up to you. I don't.

I don't say any of this to defend the authorities' response to Covid here. The reverse - it's impossible to properly critique it when social media is gummed up with so much nonsense.

Sheesh, sounds a bit like you're trying to split hairs to defend something. So the post must have been 23 October if it was the day after first race meeting. England 7 day average by specimen date is reported five days in arrears to allow for any delays in testing. 7 day average to 11 October was 180 per 100k population in Cheltenham. Equivalent figure for 18 October was 1304 - a 624% increase. So not really "nonsense".

Which leaves us with your objection to the phrase "way ahead". Which really feels like clutching at straws if that's all you can find in a four page post.

Oh man. That's not how the five day delay works. They don't finalise the data until five days after but the cases reported for, say, 3 July are not the cases for 8 July. They're for 3 July. In any case it would be the other way round wouldn't it? With a five-day delay the 23rd would be reported on the 28th, not the 18th.

Even if you were right the current prodigious decline in cases in Cheltenham would be a pretty good argument for holding the races every day, I guess. Which shows what nonsense this is.

As to "all I can find" I haven't even looked at anything except those two things because I've no idea about PPE storage. But I'm not trying to defend anything, I'm just pointing out fairly simple errors.

It is how the five day delay works I'm afraid, I've no idea what you're on about with 3rd and 8th July but on 23rd the latest day available would have been the 18th. Here's the latest chart from government web page. You'll see that it only goes up to the 21st, five days ago (which is itself still showing 100% increase on a week earlier so would be interested to see your evidence for a prodigious decline).

I thought that you meant that they test people on the 22nd, wait five days to make sure the data is correct and then report that data for the 18th. But in fact you're saying that the poster's claim is that the cases rose five days before, not "on the same day", but that was the latest data he/she had available?

I suppose at a stretch that's fair but at the very least it's an enormous cherry pick of the data - because cases then in fact declined - and if it's taken as true then the poster is going to have to live with the notion that the race meeting seems to have reduced Covid in Cheltenham. Which I suspect they'd not be that comfortable with.

Confirmed cases for yesterday in Cheltenham were down to about 21 per 100k. Do you suppose this will be revised upwards by hundreds of per cent once the impact of the race meeting is revealed? And would you defend the claim that "racing went ahead at Cheltenham after a big drop in confirmed covid cases" because that's what this data shows?

I think you should read the post again. The poster wasn't saying that Cheltenham races caused the rise. And using the most recent data available to him / her can hardly be called cherry picking. What's the source for your 21 per 100k? You certainly can't claim that cases declined after the meeting as the data for the first day of the meeting won't even be finalised till tomorrow. Unless you're cherry picking incomplete data?

Got my booster today. Went on to CVS website, filled out some details and booked the appointment for same day. Not too bad

I got mine at a drop in centre. They should have your details at hand.
The only stipulation seems to be the 6 months since your 2nd jag.
I had the flu jag at the same time.

Going for ma prescott the day 👍

Tried again to re-arrange my appointment. Online simply doesn't work.

The helpline....... held on for about 15 minutes before being re-started back to original options.....

Shambolic.

EDIT

Managed to speak to a human.
The whole booking system is useless apparently, the website doesn't work and the staff on the helpline can't help either.

Brilliant.

Lucky old @joethehibby

One thing I’ve noticed is Italy and Spain deaths are way below those in the UK at the moment
