Doig

We could really do without all this shite in the week leading up to the Scottish Cup Final.

At this stage it’s rumours. We will see and cross that bridge when it comes to it. Just win that trophy on Saturday first

I would like 40 million upfront with add ons, and 90% sell on ....
But that ain't gonna happen either.
2.5 million upfront for a 19 year old who has played 32 games is pretty good money.

They have just won promotion up to the English premier league, 4 million upfront is nothing to them, (if the rumours are true)

The only thing the tags have done towards a ST J player is say how Kerr has blown HIBS away by stating he is happy to stay at ST J.. funnily enough i bet every HIBS player they are trying to unsettle would say they are happy to stay at HIBS... fuvkin rags don’t even hide their hatred of HIBS for pumping their team in their only Scottish cup final

AC Milan now interested in Doig?! Allegedly

Gotcha! Was stuck for a moment there.

The only one really worth the mention was Kerr, and he himself came out and put that to bed before this week even started.

It is annoying though, same shit every big game

Sure Ali McCann was rumoured with a move in a rag recently.

We’re only hearing it because it’s the week of the Scottish Cup Final. Don’t think the players are daft enough to pay attention to it this week, don’t think the staff at the club will let them.

Yip, let’s hope there have been no distractions this week. Everything can wait until after tomorrow

4 mill take it

Can't do the basics in a cup final. I think we'd be laughing if we got 4 mill for a player who is nowhere near ready to step up a level.

To be fair to the lad, he didn’t put the 4m figure on himself.
Many of his much more experienced teammates let him down badly.

He remains a fine young player with massive potential. The trick is realising that potential.

I am not pointing any fingers at young Josh for today.

Crap

Dont think blaming a young laddy helps, hes had a good season, it's down to the manager to pick the team and ultimately hes the one who got his team and tactics wrong and then made a heckingbottom mess of it.

It was the team most of us would have picked (give or take a Daz) unfortunately it was also pretty much the team that had lost 3 times on the trot to St Johnstone without landing a glove.

A few folk suggested going 5-3-2 before the game and basically matching up with St Johnstone and I think in hindsight that would’ve been a good shout. The players still looked to be playing within themselves though not sure what tactics could’ve solved that 😞

We can talk about tactics for ever more. When the attitude is not there, it's a waste of time.
That word should be plastered across the dressing room walls at ER , and EM.

Nobody can blame Doig for that goal yesterday, if you want to blame anyone the finger you should have been pointed at Hanlon as he had to mark Rooney moving Doig over to where he was.

I've only seen the goal once, and no intention of seeing it again to be honest. But when I watched it, Doig was correctly marking the opposition right back and was simply beaten to the ball.

The boy Rooney is a unit, Doig is quite tall but there was only going to be one winner. Boyle’s attempted tackle on Booth was pathetic and Wotherspoon only has a right foot so it was obvious he was going to cut back onto that which I thought was the only mistake Gogic done. I don’t blame Doig though.

Quite agree, I just didn't understand your earlier comment that Hanlon was to blame for not swapping places with Doig.

I would have had Daz in there, he's a magnet for crosses, and without blaming Doig, I do think Lewis would have had a better chance of winning that ball even though he's a few inches shorter - because he's much stronger than the laddie.

What's done is done though.

And I'm pissed off with it all.

Just heard that Liam Fox has joined the coaching staff - I know one of his mates and Fox is a diehard Gunt with a real dislike of Hibs.

Can't say I'm impressed with that appointment.

My opinion was Hanlon would have been a better match for Rooney, it’s done now anyway but I just didn’t agree with Doig getting the blame.

This is why I have no faith in Ross with his appointments and this latest one is clearly evident of that.

Imagine getting that kind of dough for a guy who's played 1 full season. Amazing figure if pulled off.

Small change to Arsenal.

Small change to Arsenal.

Aye. This Brexit is possibly the best thing thats happened for Scottish football.

Indeed it appears a lot and it is to is...but down South heir buying players for 170m...crazy

Hibs knocked back a bid from Watford apparently.

Contrary to my earlier post back in early May, it now looks inevitable to me that Doig will be away soon along with several others.

We just have to ensure we get the maximum value for him, and also negotiate a big sell-on fee.

I still think he needs to spend at least another year with Hibs for his own development as a player, however young talented scottish players are now in big demand down south due to English clubs difficulties in bringing in foreign players after Brexit.

Watford trying it on with a silly bid. In the current market down south because of Brexit we should hold out for £4 Million up front minimum.

Yeah Josh is going to leave.
Good to see us say no to a £2.5m offer though, we're serious about getting a proper valuation for him.

I think we'll sign someone before he leaves.
I see todays our first day back to the club, so I expect us to start moving again.

The Scotsman saying the full package was worth around £4m.
Definitely changed times, 3 or 4 years ago we'd have drove him down.

That's not a bad offer for a lad who has played 30 odd games.

Can see Watford coming back with an improved offer which may alert Arsenal and Leeds to submit theirs.

They'll just sit back and wait for us to accept something
Then the rest will come and match it.

If we accept a bid from someone then that's the deal that should be done regardless of who comes in with another offer. You can't go accepting a bid then changing your mind. It's not the way to do business especially if you want to keep selling players.

Why would they? Would mean we've already admitted what our price is. The only offer they need to up on anyone else is his personal terms.

Accepting a bid means you've reached the clubs value.
Accepting another bid from another club that matches that value isn't bad business 🤷‍♂️ we can accept as many offers as we like. It's up to Doig where he goes at that point. Not us.

I dread the day if we ever became fan owned or fan run. Every player would be punted at the earliest opportunity for a pittance. All over social media whether it's Doig, Nisbet or Porteous, it's "good money", "take it", "he's only played 40 games..." etc, etc.

I must be getting old. I recall the times our club got grief for selling players. Now it seems to be celebrated FFS...

Doig is under long term contract and he's learning his trade. He will get better and his value will increase. Hold our nerve and only sell if the offer is too good to refuse.

Doesn’t mean to say the club wouldn’t offer more in order that they get their player. The report says people close to Doig mention Arsenal as his preferred choice, 4/5 million up front is nothing to them where Watford were rounding up to 4 million with the add on’s which was rejected. Arsenal could offer the full amount up front plus give us add on’s over a certain amount of games with a decent sell on clause, it’s going to be interesting that’s for sure and if it does happen I hope our recruitment team have a ready made replacement lined up.
