Corona virus on its own thread.

Brighter news is the Oxford vaccine is ready to be rolled out. The UK has tons of the stuff, it doesn't need to be deep frozen and I'd assume is therefore much easier to transport around the country.

I just hope we have enough needles!
We’re in Leith Jack... plenty needles.

Agree and I feel like the situation is best ignored rather than giving the scum rag the oxygen. Can't stop myself from making the observation that the chancellor did worse in an actual promotional video for that eat out to help out carry on. Delivering food to tables with no mask on compared to standing two metres away with no mask on!

Corbyn got called out for agreeing to a selfie didn't he? And yet the prime minister gets official photos with all and sundry maskless. If those dichotomies don't help people to see through the horrific bias of the right wing media I don't know what will.
I think I had dichotomies the other night there but it cleared up with a couple of Paracetamol.

Another complete lockdown is inevitable isn’t it

I think it has to happen but will it happen in time and will the nutters pay attention to it.

Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine approved for use by the regulators.

This is the game changer in the fight against Covid-19.

Miraculous what these people have achieved in a year.

Apart from shutting down the schools, colleges and universities, what more is there to lockdown than we are doing at the moment ?

I suppose a complete ban on visiting anywhere, one jaunt out your house a day for daily excercise.

We might see the season being stopped for a while, hope not though.

Hearing chatter that the new strain is lethal to immune suppressed - which is why there was a panic.

This makes grim reading. If her assertions are correct Sturgoen, Drakeford, and Foster are as culpable as Johnson.
Thousands of students will be returning to Scottish Universities next Tuesday, many from the South East of England.

USA had its highest deaths ever yesterday 3800 brutal. Today Scotlands deaths are 68 if we had us population that would be 4200. How can we not protect our people better than trump that wants to deal with covid with domestos. Seeing as Christmas mixing won't be affecting numbers yet , January will be grim

Royal infirmary is practically empty the stats utter shite

This is a pleasant opinion from you considering your reporting mega Covid infection rates and deaths everywhere in Europe on a daily basis. Everthing miraculously barry. You are confusing the empty RI with the 21,7,49, etc buses to and from it shirley.

I don't think the Scottish Government is nearly as inept as the UK and in many ways, the Scottish situation/performance is linked to and has suffered from the UK's chaotic mismanagement but they have also made some terrible errors (eg. universities going back without testing, christmas free-for-all, lack of airport testing or managed isolation) and worse, they keep repeating errors (eg. a week of notice before this lockdown).

Keeping the schools open was the right move up until the new strain was identified. Transmission amongst kids was really low and it was rare to pass from child to teacher.

Government missing in action and we're now at the stage that lawyers are having to get involved to let the country see what's happening in hospitals. This is proper failed state stuff.

Well for a start they should go back to counting people in the big stores.Waiting in a queue until your brought forward, cut right back on the bus service, and yes, if your not wearing a mask, you don't get in,mask wearing is compulsory on the hospital ward,if you've got asthma, then either put up with a mask for the length of time it takes you to do your shopping or get your shopping delivered. This is too serious to be arseing around any more.

They count the people in and out of the stores I use, Aldi use a very clever trafiic light system and Morrisons have a member of security on the door click counting?

I don't disagree that we should be much better at these basics but like washing your hands, they distract from the strategic fuckups made at national and regional level.

How dare the government tell people to wash their hands when they encouraged international travel and eating out over the summer, avoided action when required in each wave of the virus and failed to put in adequate isolation procedures or support (for intl travel and citizens) and are still failing to do that.

Many governments have ballsed this up though few as bad as the UK government. I note that Ireland, which had been doing okay by reacting early and being cautious, stupidly opened the pubs and shops in December and are now seeing as many cases as Scotland. They did manage to see the problem early though and shut things down quickly and hard. Meanwhile, with all the warning signs there in December, Scotland did nothing until after Christmas.

I've heard that Scotland is following the UK in cancelling the second vaccine injection in order to increase the number of first injections. This sounds like yet another utter balls up. We shall see.

Well Lidl in the Kirkgate,a few months back it had a queue outside that stretched back to Boots. That isn't there anymore, there might be security at the door, but nobody is saying 'no' 'hud on a minute''' 4 in when 4 come out'and 'please use the gel' simply isnnae happening.

And Tesco one way system just before Christmas was a joke.

The one way systems generally seem ineffective out here too.
Although there are big black arrows on the floor many people think a big grouse has been shelf stacking and stood in black paint accidentally.

Aldi appear to use there’s as I also used aldi, other stores in Leith used to bother but don’t seem to anymore, Tesco has a light system but I have never actually seen it on.

Sister was saying work at the hospital has been really hectic this weeks with 100 or so free beds across the board when this time last year they had over 400 free.

Also a large increase in young people with the virus including a lot of kids.

There's a big increase in all ages of people with the virus so not surprising really.

Worse of this whole thing is we've not even hit the peak, goverment fuck ups throughout the UK (especially bad with Boris and his mumbling jumbling), my kids won't be going back to school dont beleive it safe to do so and have a wee man who has asthma and suffered with RSV as a baby so not risking it.

Scottish Parliament recalled for tomorrow following on from a meeting of the Scottish emergency folk. Nicola Sturgeons chat on social media looks as though we're going from tier 4 to tier 40! Basically stay at home!

The schools won't be opening so no problem there.

Full lockdoon, off for bogrolls ??

Football season in trouble then I suppose?

Here we go again

Football season in trouble then I suppose?
No mention of professional sport in the statement so I am assuming football will be ok to continue ?....I stand to be corrected though.

Whatever you think of the parties involved it's still refreshing to see Ruth Davidson ask actual grown up questions which are then answered in a grown up way. I honestly couldn't tell you the last time I saw that happen in Westminster.

Can I just clarify something here ?

I live on my own and so does my 87 year old dad. I get all his shopping for him, pay his bills etc as he can't get out and has poor mobility. In March till about July last year I was not allowed to go into his house to give him his things and basically look after him. I assume from todays statement that we are now back to this again ?

I'm pretty sure she said that this change doesn't affected "extended households" so the extended household section in this link should still apply:

Thanks for that.

Here we go again
.. and yes, here we go again. Everyone is waxing lyrica about what governments have fucked up where... but for me, a huge factor for here we go again is the amount of people who just dont give a fuck! A huge amount of the public, after all this time, cannae get their heads round some basic principles!

So for example : portobello beach at new years day etc.... rammed.

Its just no going to fix until we have a very big % of the population vaccinated. We should just expect the unexpected for the next 12 months in all aspects of life. eg The schools now put back to feb; told my 6th form son when they advisedschools shut till 18th Jan that thats almost guaranteed to change.

What is abundantly clear is that health care around the globe it wholly inadequate to support thier populations in worse case scenarios.
Its almost universally accepted in Science communities that we were long overdue a pandemic of some sorts, and that these will be more frequent in the future.

So is everything shutting again?

Last time most of us got furloughed because building sites got shut and nobody could get into houses to do any work.
Are we going back to those conditions?

I'm getting scans at hospital in a couple weeks too, will that get put back another lifetime?

She just said that people who can work from home must do so and she'd be working with businesses to make sure they were doing all they could to enable working from home. I took from that that building sites / plumbers etc would still be able to operate.

I suspect the scans thing will depend on how the hospitals cope in the coming days and weeks.

The Bonfire of the Sanities is now upon us.

The ramifications for mental health are going to be catastrophic. One can only imagine how big that iceberg below the surface of us all will prove to be.
