We should have had this weeks ago but chat has been spread all over the place.

I have a moderate interest in this as I was involved at a government level for the bird flu stuff when that kicked off. But I retired early over 7 years ago. Nostalgia and all that!

The website below monitors how the Miley Cyrus is affecting countries around the world. I find it fascinating. But words cannot describe how happy I am that I'm not involved.

The UK looks sweet in the charts. But just 2 weeks ago Spain didn't look too bad and 4 weeks ago Italy was still a holiday destination!

My fag run to Spain on the 1st of April looks like a fool's errand! Bastard, but I still have my prepare for Brexit reserve :-)

I suppose I'm looking for this thread to be about other sports cancellations, Celebrity cruises cancelling over 100 cruises affecting 2 to 3,000 passengers each. Or your personal Miley story.

Sneeze in the hankie below.

I was relaxed when it was quoted today that there was a single case in Scotland that had been transmitted by community. But, then I heard some expert saying he thinks figures are underquoted ten-fold.

Worth a read of the Spanish Flu Epidemic of 1919 - and as I understand it, there is no cure at this point and you can catch it on multiple occasions.

I'm worried about seeing my parents, and any impact it might have on them more than me, the wife and the kids who should be okay.

I reckon our UK tactic is to allow most people to get infected and thereby build up an immunity. Lose a couple of thousand pensioners off the welfare state in the process.

my son seems to have it, has been told to self isolate so he will be another not going onto official figures..how many more like that?

great info sent to your inbox as and when it happens.

I’m getting these.
Can’t say they help me much, personally or professionally but no harm in signing up.

Reckon it’s pretty much out of control now and a bit of a lottery.

Another thing that for me was my own mortality!

There's been 3 or 4 of these things in the last 20/30 years whereas before it was 1 or 2 every 50/100 years - something like that. I'm not sure anyone noticed because there were probably too many wars killing folk anyway.

This one, or the next one, is unlikely to get me but how knows after that?

For the younger folk among us it's a bit like registering on new website and for the first time you have to select that higher age grouping :26:

Anyway.... I was at the COPD clinic at the Western General yesterday. The hospital is rammed so had to park miles away and walk.
Then the clinic is two floors up....,.,,

Coped with it all.

Then another patient came in. Chinese looking lass with the face mask on.

It was interesting. I was sat next to a table with gel bottle. They’d have had to fight me for it.

Not that I’m a snivelling coward.
Not totally anyway.

All right all right it’s a fair cop.

Reckon Jack’s a gonner though.

Yes Ministers.

BIG G

Found this very interesting. Makes the decision by the government to continue with things like Cheltenham and Football look totally mental.
I think America is fucked, like really fucked. They don't cancel The NBA or The Players without very good reasons.

My work has been quite the shit show!

This is what you can conclude:

  • Excluding these, countries that are prepared will see a fatality rate of ~0.5% (South Korea) to 0.9% (rest of China).
  • Countries that are overwhelmed will have a fatality rate between ~3%-5%
Put in another way: Countries that act fast can reduce the number of deaths by a factor of ten. And that’s just counting the fatality rate. Acting fast also drastically reduces the cases, making this even more of a no-brainer.

Countries that act fast reduce the number of deaths at least by 10x.

That's a frightening article @southfieldhibby .

All Scottish football matches postponed indefinitely. I suppose that means they don't have to make a decision about what happens around champions, relegation, playoffs and cups till later on.

All football cancelled.

Remember to wash your hands and sing happy birthday folks...

Maybe I'm in the minority but I'm with the scientist who said that untill we expose about 60% of the population to the virus we will never build our own immune systems to fight it off: and it will keep returning. Yes people will die..mainly elderly people with underlying health problems...but that will happen with normal flu. Our bodies are finding a way to fight this virus...hence up to 99% of people are cured. Later it will probably be similar to normal flu. Hiding away for a month will not eradicate this virus

Aye I saw that too, like a herd to combat it.

Over 80 companies trying to come up with a vaccine.

Should be hounding China for there role in this disease.

British Airways going under...

Hopefully they will find a cure. But we do underestimate the bodies ability to fight disease, and a lot of people have been saying for years we are getting far too reliant on sterilising everything, that when a new disease comes along we will fall like dominoes. We killed half the new world off because we took viruses into their countries..so Andy, I do appreciate your sentiment, but UK and the rest of Europe has done more over the last couple of centuries to wipe nations out than this virus ever will.

As an aside, if I asked the question, what has been the most successful virus ever..most people would come up with, the plague, or Spanish flu. Nope it is actually the common cold, because the chief aim of a virus is not to kill people, but to evolve so it can live on it's hosts without being eradicated itself. Viruses that kill their hosts merely are unevolved and suicidal. The way it looks is that this virus may be around every year like the normal flu we experience but over time become much less potent..funnily enough the way they do become potent is learning to fight our man made ant-virus medicines

British Airways going under...
That's possibly a touch premature.

British Airways going under...

I’m currently sitting in the north lounge at Heathrow smashing the red like no tomorrow, if they’re going under, I’m taking part responsibility

Death toll in Italy up another 250 in a day, crazy.

The government are telling folk to self isolate for 7 days yet else where people are getting told 14 days! Which is it?

Another goverment meeting about to start to decide what new measures to bring in. Some people going to be doing a lot of babysitting soon if schools close

Think its 7 days for any cold symptoms.. 14 if def virus..though their telling us not to even bother contacting doctors now so how will anyone know what it is? I'll fight the virus with alcohol tommorow

They can ram their “Herd Immunity”,absolute scum doing this to our people....

Yup, being used as a big science experiment which is going to kill many people, it's crazy.

If you’re generally healthy then this sounds no too bad but obv if you’re older or have health issues then it’s a scary time.

Nadine Dorrie's mum at 84 now has it.I hope the govt. are watching.

Bolsanaro and Trudeau reported to have it.

Tom Hanks has it.

I'd doubt she'll be left on a trolley

Been iIl with a cold for around two months got rid of it last week but no got a new worse cold wi a dry throat, cough, runny nose, never ending.

I have been in Malaysia for the last 7 weeks and they along with Singapore were immediately exposed due to the close cultural and trading ties they have with China.

CoronaVirus cases spiked quickly due simply to people returning from China hence the objective of the government became twofold.

Firstly they had to stop the virus getting into the country hence all Chinese (and later South Korean) flights were banned and heat/ body temperature machines were set up at airport and border crossing points and anyone with a fever could immediately be checked over and if necessary denied entry.

Any relief/mercy flights sent to China to repatriate Malaysian citizens carefully scanned and checked over the passengers and isolated and then quarantined anyone suspected to be a carrier.

Secondly they had to stop the spread from within the country and again heat /body temperature guns were set up in hotels and some shopping malls and anyone with a fever was again identified. Hotel entry being denied so ill people are discouraged from traveling.

Hand and mouth washing etc is just a gimme in this part of the world so there is also an inbuilt advantage as you don't need to educate the country.

Facemasks were also strongly encouraged and excessive price selling clamped down on.

All of this was on the back of the SARS scare a few years back so they had a plan and the equipment very much in place.

Compare this with planeloads of people being flown back from Italy and just dumped at Scottish and English airports with no segregation ? and has anyone even seen a body temperature scanner in operation here.

Malaysia isnt a high risk country as its hard enough for humans to survive in 35 degree sunny temperatures never mind a virus though its not all good news as the CoronaVirus does have a hold caused probably by the close proximity of people at religious festivals either Muslim or Hindu and the porous borders in the north.

The big lesson Scotland could have taken is to protect the entry points such as airports more and if fever is one of the main symptoms of CoronaVirus then the equipment and resources should have been in place to test for that.

Facemasks are another. Not day to day in the streets as its questionable whether they work that well but top class masks are virtually compulsory among hospital staff who are vitally important in keeping the hospital running.

That also happened in China a couple of weeks back..what we dont know is if it is a small minority.. or a lot...we will find out soon as China gets back to work

By the way I work as carer in community...none of ius have or have been supplied with face masks

I’m away Gran Canaria on Monday as long as we don’t go on lock down before I go I’ll be ok, doesn’t really seem to be Upto much over there think there’s 13 cases so far there, 4 from the same family and most of them have been to Italy recently

That First Defence nasal spray I think is pretty effective if you use it early on if you suspect you have the start of a cold. I used to get the cold 3-5+ a year. I made it over 12 months and eventually got a sore throat for 2-3 days but it didn't spread to the usual blocked nose. Of course now I have Corona to look forward to. :9:
