Fraser Fyvie

Deal off with United. Staying at Hibs according to the Dundee Evening Telegraph.

It says may be staying? Rehash of the Lennon interview

Not read either. I was told by a neighbour who's obviously read the piece in the tele and rehashed it to me with a bit more definition.

He was there yesterday with his partner and wee boy. Without saying too much...he is not ruling out Hibs. Says he has taken all the steps he can to make it happen but it is now out of his hands and up to others what now happens...

Doesn't sound too hopeful. Come on Neil, stop being an arse and bring back a legend.

Looks to me like Fraser is bitterly regretting his actions.
However, it's whether Lennon thinks he will be totally committed or just regretting not getting a better deal elsewhere.

Personally I'd like to see Fraser return, but if I was in Lennon's position I may feel differently.

Hopefully it will end up 'win/win'

I'd hope that Lennon is above cutting off his nose to spite his face, but I'm not sure he is tbh. I've seen a lot of negative posts about Frasers ability on social media and was starting to wonder if I was talking him up out of sheer affection for a cup winning legend rather than ability, but then I found this article:

5 reasons why Fraser Fyvie is a great signing for Dundee United - The Scotsman

For those who can't be bothered reading the whole thing, the main bit that got my attention was:

"Nobody played more passes per 90 minutes than Fyvie in the second tier last season. The results are skewed because he was on the league’s most dominant team, who had seven of their players in the top 12, but Fyvie’s numbers were still impressive. Not only did he better six of his team-mates, including the much-lauded John McGinn, he led second-placed Dylan McGeouch by over five passes per game. They weren’t many wayward ones either, as a 83.76 passing completion percentage (seventh in the league) would testify too. And he wasn’t one of those sideways, take-no-chances midfielders either, ranking third in both the most through balls and passes to the final third per 90 minutes."

I'd like to think that we wouldn't turn down the chance to get a player of that quality back on board unless we had someone better lined up, in which case great. He wouldn't take time to settle and we wouldn't need to pay a fee allowing us to focus more on the attacking players that we need this season. I'm sure we'll find out one way or the other soon....

Seen David Gray, Fraser Fyvie with wife and kids on Queensferry Street while driving last night.... I shouted "Fraser get signing for the Hibees!". He laughed out loudly then I said "Are you signing?" to which he said something about "....(unclear)...choice" but couldn't work it out!

I want us to keep him.
But what's the chances of us offering him the same deal again.
I think we'll reduce it as a lesson for trying to hard ball is

Good post.

I doubt if we can get someone who would better the stats quoted.

I think that would be the worst option to be honest.

Either re-offer the deal (or even sweeten it slightly to show there's no hard feelings) or leave it be.

I think it should be whatever was offered originally, we've obviously changed our mind too so we should stick to it.

Agreed. A lesser offer - whilst he might well sign it - would probably just cause some resentment which wouldn't be good for either party. Hope he signs.

If this is something that's still on the cards then it should be concluded pronto. Both parties have had more than long enough to weigh the offer up. If FF is stalling then it is not showing much will, respect or commitment to Hibs and vice-versa if it is Hibs delaying, really can't see why the hold up. Obviously we are only fans and supporters so are not privy to the ins and outs of what is happening but can't recall any other player resigning a contract here or elsewhere taking so long to be sorted out. Hope he signs but if not then we've had enough time to get over it and move on.

If we're not having much success getting a replacement I'd be delighted if we re-signed Fyvie. I always thought he was a victim of his own desire to take the ball under pressure..makes him more of a target for the type of fans who love to jump on a players mistakes in a match.

If I'm honest I'd rather keep Fyvie than sign what appears a reluctant Whittaker.

Whittaker appears tae be doing what Fyvie done, bit two faced of Hibs if they're letting that go on imo

I think Whittaker is holding out to see if he'll get one last English league payday. It's not quite the same, Fyvie knew what Hibs wanted and chose to wait longer and expected us to be waiting. Hibs wanted folk to extend early so that our budgets were in place early.

Same could still happen here, someone else might come up and we'll tell Steven he's too late.

I'm totally mystified by this drama re Whittaker. It's pretty shambolic.

Disappointing.

So many were confident he'd signed and we were 'timing' the announcement.....:lookaround:

I wonder if Whittaker's hesitation (if indeed it is his hesitation rather than financial/agent/other variable) is whether he's going to be a first team regular, which will depend on what position we primarily see him playing. I don't think he'll be a first choice full back, so he's either being targeted to add depth over a number of positions or to be a first choice (presumably in midfield).

I think this might be the case. The whole Whittaker situation is a conundrum really. I'm excited about a player of his quality signing for Hibs, but full back seems the oddest position to invest in at the club.

If we plan on competing in the cups then we'll be playing up to 50 games this season.
There's room for everyone to get plenty game time, especially so when you are as versatile as SW. Be surprised if it is for those reasons, he's getting on a bit, being rotated and used properly will get the best we can out of him.

agree with that re FF, does not hide from taking responsibility even when things not coming off

Spot on.

Pretty pissed off with this. It seemed he def wanted to resign after taking some time to think about it, so what is Lennons actual problem with him?

To be fair a lot of players will train with former clubs when out of contract, would rather that than him come back weeks behind. Not that I think he will come back, seems to be too many issues hidden away.

So we have weakened our own midfield and potentially strengthened Aberdeen's. All because Lennon spat the dummy.

Really pissed off at this.

I doubt he'll join them. As Steve20 said players often train with previous clubs and I think he's from that neck of the woods so is probably staying with family.

To be honest while a decent player for us I think the will be looking for better, if they're looking at all.

Aberdeen would be mental not to take him. Around good players be does well. He always looks for the ball and with clever players playing off him...

I suspect they'll sign him.

I’m not sure Fraser will be a big loss to us. That may seem contradictory bearing in mind that I rate him as a player, but the reality is that Lennon is likely to go with Bartman more often than not this coming season. We will be playing stronger teams, and ‘parking the bus’ at ER won’t be the common event it was in the last three years. Bartman and Fraser don’t play well together is a pretty common view I suspect, so Fraser’s gametime may be limited to cover for Barts. Does that justify a big wage?

Debateable.

As for the Sheep signing him, they know he’s scratching about now so they might make an offer, but they won’t break the bank. I think he may be a bit part player at the Sheep too.

So the extent that we have been weakened and our rival strengthened (if he signs) may be pretty marginal.

I still wish it had never worked out this way, because at the end of the day the boy is a Cup Winning Legend.

Aberdeen aren't signing him, just offering training facilities according to their local rag.

Bartley would be the first name on the team sheet against the likes of Celtic, sevco, Aberdeen and possibly hertz but I'd have Fyvie over him for every other game tbh! This is obviously my personal opinion but I feel we don't play as well with Barts in the team, especially in a 4-4-2! He's meant to be the deepest lying midfielder but Dylan and John always seem to have to come a lot further back (even behind him sometimes) to get the ball and make things happen when he plays. In contrast when Fraser plays they can stay that wee bit further forward, allowing us to attack faster. I also think we tend to play more hoofball when Barts plays and just seemed a lot more fluid when Fraser was playing instead. That's not to say that Dylan and John won't play as the two central midfielders and make my whole point moot, more just that I'll be worried about the type of football we're going to be playing if Lennon intends to start Bartley in every game next season.

Fyvie has officially signed for Dundee United. All the best to him, still saddened to see him leave.

Sad to see him go, would have kept him here longer.

all of the above... we probably have cover for bartley in the squad. fyvie would be better cover - but just that - he'd be cover.

I'd hope bartley plays every minute of every game.

All the best to Fraser Fyvie at Dundee United who now have three former Hibees playing for them...Keatings, Stanton and now Fraser Fyvie.
He was a fine player for us and became an all time Hibs legend for his big part in Hibs winning the Scottish Cup.
Hope United get the automatic promotion place, and IMO it will be a straight fight between them and Falkirk.

All the very best Fraser, it was a pleasure to see you in the green and white.

It must be amazing for anyone who was involved telling their kids - yeah I was playing the day Hibernian fc overturned 114 years of history.

last player to win an FA Cup and a Scottish Cup.

This, its one of the few mistakes I think Neil Lennon and co have made so far.
